Write about things you know – for example, I make up stories about my pets.

A good story follows a recipe. It needs characters, a plot, a beginning, a middle and an end – if you don’t have these ingredients, you don’t have a story.

Make sure you have plenty of speech – people don’t spend a long time describing things in real life, why should they do it in your story?

Above all, enjoy writing – if you’re not having fun, how will your readers?
